Provenance

This archive represents a collection of approximately 180 watercolours and drawings by the pioneering British Surrealists Dr Grace Pailthorpe (1883–1971) and Reuben Mednikoff (1906–1972).

Bequeathed by the artists to their nephew, Mark Anthony Black, whose mother, Mary Black (née Mednikoff), was the sister of Reuben Mednikoff, the collection has remained within the family's care for decades. Every work in this corpus is signed and dated.

While some individual pieces have historical exhibition status, the vast majority of this body of work has remained unrecorded and unseen by the public. This platform serves as a curated digital repository to preserve the collection's unity, inviting scholarly dialogue and institutional evaluation of their collaborative legacy.
